
A patent filed by Apple in January 2011, covered "an electronic wristwatch," according to the paperwork that the Cupertino firm filed with the USPTO. The device connects to a smartphone wirelessly, and could include a touchscreen display, controls, and a battery. The screen would be used to receive and send messages, and gestures would be used to control the timepiece. Some of the sensors could be stored in the wrist band.
Last year, Apple patented the name "iWatch" in a few countries, and that is the name that it is assumed that Apple will use for a smartwatch. However, the name "iTime" ...
