Huawei smartphone sales rise by 33% in 2014; company falls short of shipping goal

Huawei saw its smartphone sales rise nearly 33% in 2014, to reach $11.8 billion. The company shipped 75 million smartphones during the year, according to an internal memo written by Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business. Huawei fell short of its target to ship 80 million units for the year, although it did achieve year-over-year growth of 40%. The first half of the year saw Huawei increase shipments by 62% to reach 34.27 million handsets.
